The Laser Physics Group, headed by Prof. John McInerney is affiliated with the Physics department in UCC.
Research:

semiconductor laser devices and optical amplifiers, in particular broad area lasers, with the aim of producing high power, high brightness devices.

non-linear dynamics of quantum dot devices

vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs).
