
Tyndall is one of Europe’s leading research centres,
specialising in Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
hardware. Tyndall has a critical mass of over 350 researchers,
engineers, students and support staff working in the areas of
micro/nanoelectronics, photonics, microsystems and theory and
modelling.
Tyndall currently hosts more than 100 postgraduate students from
multidisciplinary backgrounds including microelectronics,
physics, chemistry and life sciences. Over 300 postgraduates
have undertaken their research at Tyndall.
Postgraduate
profile
 Tyndall National Institute currently hosts over 100 postgraduate
level students. Students come from multi-disciplinary backgrounds
including electronics and electrical engineering, physics, chemistry
and life sciences.
Tyndall has been hosting postgraduates since the formation of the
National Microelectronics Research Centre in 1981. Over 300
postgraduate level engineers and scientists have graduated from
Tyndall/NMRC since 1981. Since 2000, more than 100 PhDs and 50
Masters have graduated. Most Tyndall students are registered
with University College Cork (UCC) or Cork Institute of Technology
(CIT) but students from any 3rd /4th level institute can carry out
research at Tyndall. We currently host students of over 20
nationalities.

Who Can Research In Tyndall?
Students from any University/3rd level college can carry out research here, while being registered with their University.
The awarding of your research degree will be from the University that you are registered with while carrying out your research at Tyndall. All research and supervision is performed at Tyndall and students are required to fulfil the regulations for the awarding of the degree as set forth by their University/3rd level college, the department in which they are registered, and Tyndall.

Tyndall National Institute is the perfect environment in which to carry out your postgraduate research. It has world class facilities in a number of areas, with established senior researchers in many fields. The broad range of subjects explored, gives you the exposure to know not just about your own field, but also other research that is going on, enhancing your overall knowledge. It may even help you to see alternative research that you would like to think more about joining! There are about 100 students currently in Tyndall.
