Novel micro-nanotechnology for biological and medical applications

Technologies that were traditionally developed for application in the information and communications technology (ICT) industries are poised to have major impact on medical and biological research as well as in the medical device industry and in pharmaceutical industry. Applications of these technologies in areas such as genetic diagnostics, drug screening and delivery, early disease detection and efficacious treatment are enabled by the provision of micro- and nanotechnology tools commonly used nowadays in the ICT sector.

Tyndall’s Life Sciences Interface (LSI) Centre is exploring the opportunities to be derived from the use of novel micro-nanotechnology (MNT) for biological and medical applications. While encompassing both the monitoring and manipulation of biosystems, the research focus is on the occurrence of molecular and cellular events at the intersection between MNT devices and biological matrices which can then be harnessed for useful applications across life sciences, medical and bio technologies.
