Communications

Because of the energy constraints of battery powered wireless sensor nodes, such systems require an energy-aware hardware design to provide adequate service lifetime. For such systems, the RF performance of the node is critical in terms of power consumption. An RF optimized node will reduce the number of re-transmissions needed during communication and will save energy and increase battery lifetime as a result. In addition, an RF optimized node will also allow greater communications range for the same transmit power level employed, thereby reducing the number of nodes required for a given system with a resulting decrease in system cost.
