Nanostructured Magnetic Materials
There has been a surge of research interest, mainly driven by the demand in various microelectronic applications, in developing high performance magnetic materials. The research on magnetic materials in micropower group is presently being carried out in two major fronts: a) development of ultra soft magnetic materials b) development of nanocrystalline super hard magnetic materials, both in a microelectronics compatible integration technique. Conventional materials such as Ni-Zn or Mn-Zn ferrites are known as good soft magnetic materials for moderate frequency applications and NdFeB or SmCo are known as best hard magnetic materials for different permanent magnet applications, but their high sintering temperatures are not compatible with many microfabrication processes. Work is being undertaken to synthesize different nanocrystalline material system using electrodeposition technique and sol-gel synthesis technique.
