NMRC - Worldclass ICT Research

. Research Highlights: Microelectronics Research Highlights: Photonics Research Highlights: Microsystems & Transducers Research Highlights: Nanotechnology Research Highlights: Environment NMRC has created a visionary R&D environment for selected advanced ICT based research in five research thrust areas:

World Class Research Highlights: Microelectronics Research Highlights: Photonics Research Highlights: Microsystems & Transducers Research Highlights: Nanotechnology Research Highlights: Environment

NMRC is recognised as a world class centre of excellence in selected fields within these ICT research thrusts. For example:-

  • NMRC is the only ICT research centre in Europe selected by an international review panel to participate in the European Union Advanced Research Initiatives in Nanoelectronics and Optical Interconnect and the European Union Future Emerging Technologies Programmes on Quantum Computing and Nanoscale Information Devices
  • NMRC staff will chair several significant European research conferences during the coming year including the 30th European Solid State Device Research Conference (11th -- 13th September / ESSDERC 2000) and the IEEE Workshop on Advanced Packaging (8th -- 9th May 2000), both to be held in Cork, and the European Materials Research Society Conference in Strasbourg, France (30th May -- 2nd June 2000)
  • Following a rigorous peer review, NMRC has been designated as the site for the Irish National Nanofabrication Facility and will drive future ICT related nanosciences research in Ireland.

The R&D processes, technologies and products developed within the Centre also have broad applicability in sectors outside ICT. NMRC is therefore actively developing strategic alliances within both the academic and industrial sectors to expand and exploit this capability for Ireland's benefit in sectors such as Health and Lifesciences (Biosensors), Environment (pollution prevention and monitoring), Transport (Telematics technologies) and Manufacturing (Integration technologies and green supply chain manufacturing).
