Chris Daunt graduated in 2007 with a B.Sc. in Physics from University College Cork. Following his final year project on optical ring resonators co-supervised by Dr. Frank Peters, he then joined Dr. Peters and the Integrated Photonics Group at Tyndall later that year to begin work on his PhD in High-Speed Photonics.

Chris grew up on a farm 15 miles outside Cork City. He currently plays field hockey for Cork Harlequins as a goalkeeper and has played for the national side at underage level. His other interests include music and travel, rugby and soccer.
