Group Overview:

Research themes within the Photonics Group at Tyndall National Institute encompass strategic topics in materials science, light sources, interconnect and, photonic microsystems and instrumentation.  Applications range from data- and tele-communications to semiconductor materials photoprocessing and photonic components for health and security.

The Photonics Group is internationally recognised and collaborates with leading industry and academic research partners across Europe.

The Photonics Group has played a key role in the formation of the Irish indigenous photonics sector, has spun-out several photonics companies from its research including Firecomms, OMI and NanoComms, and has transferred IP to a number of other indigenous companies including Applied Optotech and Eblana Photonics.
