Staff Vacancies

We currently have no staff vacancies in the group.

The IRCSET call for postdoctoral funding for 2010 is closed.  Click here for details. Please let us know if you are interested in applying for funding through this call to work with our group for 2011.

We are particlarly interested in recruiting a postdoc with experience in laser cooling, ultra-high vacuum technology, low light level detection or optical manipulation of particles.  You should have experimental experience with one or all of the techniques above.

Postgraduate Vacancies
We currently have no vacancies for postgraduate students.

If you are interested in joining the group for an MSc or a PhD from September 2010, and expect to obtain a 2.1 or 1st class degree in physics,  please contact Síle Nic Chormaic to discuss funding options.  It may be possible to apply for an Embark award through IRCSET or a Quantum Optics Group Scholarship.

The 2010 IRCSET call for postgraduate funding will open late 2009 or early 2010 Please check www.ircset.ie for details.  Note that IRCSET is a very competitive source of funding and is available to students who have not yet embarked on a PhD research programme.  A 1st class honour or equivalent is esential (> 70% in your exams with a very high class ranking).  If you are interested in working with micro-optics and cold atoms, please contact us to discuss projects and possible scholarship applications to the IRCSET scheme for 2010.

If you are interested in working on the theory of ultracold atomic systems please contact Dr. Thomas Busch

Student and Teacher Summer Placements
We are happy to accept applications from interested undergraduates who wish to complete their project placements within our group.  We've hosted students from Ireland, Germany, China, Australia, Austria, Poland, France, India and the US in the past and welcome applications from excellent students who have a keen interest in experimental quantum optics research.

We regret that we are unable to offer UREKA individual awards in 2009 due to a cancellation of the programme.

We regret we are unable to offer placements in our research laboratory for Irish secondary school science teachers (through the SFI STAR programme) in 2009 due to a cancellation of the programme.

Interested applicants at any stage of their career and with their own sources of funding are invited to apply at any time.
