BC-69 Researcher – Surface emitting lasers

Contract: Full Time/ Fixed term

Job Description

We seek an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to design and develop vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) with fine control of their optical properties along with their integration with spintronics for applications in neuromorphic computing systems. The work will be carried out within the III-V materials group working on similar devices. The successful applicant work within the framework of the FET-OPEN project called SpinAge funded by European Commission under Horizon 2020 programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabrication and characterisation of VCSELs
  • Development of integration strategies for the VCSELs
  • Analysis and report the results at project meetings
  • Disseminate the outcomes to peer‐reviewed academic publications and presentations at conferences of international standing.
  • Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities.
  • Contribute to the engagement on intellectual property activities in partnership with the Office of Technology Transfer
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.

Essential Criteria

  • PhD qualifications in relevant area
  • Previous experience with semiconductor photonic devices

Desirable Criteria

  • Simulation and design of photonic devices
  • Device fabrication experience

This is a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher opportunity in University College Cork for 2 years with possible extension to 3 years.

The appointment may be made on the Post-Doctoral Researchers scale €38,630 - €45,942 p.a. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with the public sector pay policy.
