FN-3 Senior Maintenance Engineer (Senior Technical Officer)

Contract Type – Full Time/Fixed Term

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Senior Maintenance Engineer will possess a thorough knowledge of Semiconductor or similar equipment installation, de-commissioning, fault finding and repair.  They will work within Tyndall’s own and on-site customer’s cleanrooms, labs and plantrooms. The Senior Maintenance Engineer will have additional responsibility for specific tasks such as project management that support the group in carrying out its function and will work mostly on their own initiative.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The role involves:

  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing complex electro, optical and mechanical semiconductor or similar equipment, in a clean room environment
  • The setting and monitoring of key maintenance indicators with a focus on continuous improvement and with emphasis on implementing preventive actions
  • Driving the escalation plan for equipment that is down for a protracted period and will require the ability to work well with a diverse team and to multitask
  • Working with minimal supervision and to adjust to changing priorities while managing own activities as well as supporting team activities
  • A proven ability to de-commission old and install new Semiconductor or similarly complex process equipment, including the ability to assemble inputs from manufacturers and contractors, in conjunction with Process/Research teams to assist with the generation of datasheets and equipment selection
  • A very high level of safety awareness and adherence to prescribed safety/quality/environmental rules, regulations and procedures
  • Identifying, procuring and maintaining the optimal stock of spares and consumables, including specialist/obsolete components and equipment upgrades
  • commitment to continuous professional development through relevant on/off-site training
  • using their knowledge to train, mentor and coach others, in particular less experienced maintenance technicians
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.
  • Additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post will be assigned over time.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a semiconductor maintenance engineer / equipment engineer / field service engineer or similar
  • Hold a relevant Masters’ degree or equivalent acquired experiential learning combined with other qualifications. *
  • Must have strong electrical diagnostic skills, including the ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams and a proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and affect the repair of semiconductor or similarly complex equipment
  • A record of taking personal ownership of Equipment issues and projects.

* Alternatively have been employed as a Technical Officer in a University in the State pre 2007

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of Semiconductor Device processing would be an advantage
  • Direct technical knowledge of some or all of the following tools Silicon/metal etch, PECVD, PVD, Wet Etch, Lithography tools, or similarly complex electro mechanical equipment
  • Experience of working in a cleanroom environment
  • Demonstrated experience of overseeing vendors, contractors, external consultants.
  • Experience in working in a customer facing role
  • A strong mechanical skillset is valued
  • Proficient computer skills including CMMS, (Pemac or equivalent).
  • Experience of Vacuum Systems and RF is desirable

This position may be appointed on the Senior Technical Officer (scale B) €54,305 - €63,868.  In all instances the successful appointment will be at the first point of the scale.
