Empowering Women @ Tyndall Programme Welcomes Dr. Fiona Blighe, Scientific Programme Manager, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI)

As part of our Empowering Women @ Tyndall (EW@T) programme's Inspiring Leader Talks speaker series, Tyndall welcomed Dr. Fiona Blighe, Scientific Programme Manager, Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).  Staff and students, both men and women, were invited to Fiona’s presentation on the Gender Agenda at SFI.

EW@T was established in 2016 to support our female staff and students to reach their full potential, through building their confidence and increasing their visibility.  At Tyndall, and in our industry as a whole, women are significantly under-represented, particularly at management level, and we are working to change this. Studies show that gender diverse organisations are stronger, perform better and work faster.  The Inspiring Leader Talks speaker series invites women leaders to share their inspiring career journey and motivate others to follow in their footsteps.

Dr. Fional Blighe, SFI with Dr. Eoin O'Reilly, Interim CEO Tyndall

Fiona manages the on-going evaluation of a portfolio of SFI awards in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, ICT, Materials Science, Mathematics and Engineering.  Fiona is the programme manager for the SFI Research Centres IPIC and CONNECT and has led SFI’s Gender Strategy to improve the representation and progression of women in all aspects of STEM careers in Ireland.

She has a background in physics and project management and prior to joining SFI, she was Programme Manager for the Centre for Women in Science and Engineering Research in Trinity College Dublin. Fiona carried out four years of postdoctoral research through positions at Dublin City University and Trinity College Dublin and holds a PhD in Physics and a degree in Natural Science (Physics and Chemistry of Advanced Materials) from Trinity College Dublin.

While the events are closed to the public, Tyndall welcomes involvement. For information about how to get involved with The Empowering Women @ Tyndall Programme contact ew@tyndall.ie or click here.
