POB-40 Programme Manager - Photonics

Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term

The Photonics Packaging Group at the Tyndall Institute invites applications for an exciting position as Programme Manager to manage new activities under the Europractice project, called NEXTS. Under this project, Tyndall will establish new electronic, photonic and MEMs packaging services, forming links with external suppliers who will provide these services. Tyndall will also manage training activities and promote NEXTS packaging services at an international level. Users of these packaging services and training activities will come from both academic and industrial backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct responsibility for establishing and managing NEXTS advanced packaging services. Packaging services will include; electronic, photonic and MEMs packaging. This will involve establishing links with global packaging services providers and developing a service offering to users.
  • Develop and organise a training programme for users of the NEXTS packaging services.
  • Promote the activities of the NEXTS project at an international level. This includes giving invited talks at leading conferences and exhibits.
  • Grow the number of users accessing the NEXTS packaging services.
  • Report activities to the Head of Group on a regular basis and support the Head of Group build a long-term strategic plan for photonic, electronic and MEMs packaging activities.
  • Participate in Education and Public Engagement activities, as required.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the Tyndall Quality Management system.
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with the required Health and Safety standards.
  • Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Essential Criteria

  • A third level degree and a minimum of 8 years’ experience in a research and development organization
  • Demonstrated experience of International and EU funding programmes or minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry driven projects
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in R&D programme management, project management and/or product development
  • Experience of managing project budgets valued at over 0.5M€
  • Experience of business development and/or R&D contract negotiation

Desirable Criteria

  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following: strategic planning, R&D innovation
  • Track record of successful grant proposal writing  
  • In-depth knowledge (Research landscape, Technology Roadmaps, Regulations and Policy implementation) in one or more Key Enabling Technologies
  • A demonstrated ability to work
