Strategic Objectives

In executing our 2013-2018 plan we will focus on six primary objectives:

  • Strengthen the research excellence in our core research centres as a driver of impact
  • Compete, win and build new world class thematic centres of excellence
  • Significantly increase our level of industry engagement and revenue, delivering Irish jobs in MNCs and Irish companies (large, SME, HPSUs and Tyndall)
  • Significantly increase our success in European Union research programs
  • Deliver impact as a national institute and gateway for industry to partner with Irish institutions and agencies
  • Establish selective collaborations in strategic international markets with significant value-add for the Irish economy

Job creation

Generating over 500 posts in High Potential Start Ups (HPSU), MNCs, SMEs and large indigenous companies

Research excellence:

Employer and partner of choice winning at least one major award each year and leading the development of new thematic centres

Skilled graduates:

A primary source of graduates to industry each year, supplying 30 graduates each year and 50 to industry within the plan period

Industry investment:

Preferred partner, engaged with >70% of leading microelectronics, photonics and medtech companies in Ireland with Researchers-in-Residance from >10 companies

Funding:

Diversified funding model attracting €20m per year from non-exchequer sources, targetting Horizon 2020 and industry

International reach:

Win one international researcher award per year and develop strategic alliances with lead research organisations (with select engagement in emerging economies)
