Contract: Full Time/ Fixed Term (Temporary Maternity Contract)

Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork invites applications for a Marketing Communications Specialist (maternity leave cover).

As the national institute for photonics and micro/nanoelectronics and a research flagship of University College Cork, Tyndall National Institute employs over 500 researchers, engineers and professional support staff, including 120 full-time graduate students.

Marketing Communications is a key function within the Tyndall Commercial Team. Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Manager, the Marketing Communications Specialist has responsibility for marketing, PR, events, content creation and online communications and will assist in executing the Marketing Communications Strategy. The role is varied and requires the ability to deliver projects on an individual basis as well as contributing to team wide initiatives. The ideal candidate will be very comfortable in a fast-paced environment and approaches tasks in a positive, proactive and creative manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation and execution of the Marketing Communications strategy.
  • Working with the Commercial Team and other groups across Tyndall to provide innovative solutions to identify and reach the target audience and business objectives.
  • Creating and producing integrated marketing collateral (Print, Media, Web, Social Media, and Presentations).
  • Event management for conferences, exhibitions and seminars in Ireland and international locations.
  • Creating content plans and sourcing content that will support the marketing communications strategy Institute wide.
  • Writing and editing content
  • Coordinating and editing content and managing design and print of the Annual Report.
  • Identifying and submitting suitable content for social media and website.
  • Providing support to the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Participating in budget and schedule preparation and follow-up.
  • Compiling and distributing press reviews.
  • Providing monthly reports, Key Performance Indicators and marketing communications activity analysis.

Essential Criteria

  • Degree in Marketing Communications or related discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years’ experience in a dynamic Marketing and/or Communications environment.
  • Proven excellent copywriting skills.
  • Proven experience in content creation, branding and direct marketing.
  • Proven experience in event management.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for CMS and social media.
  • Be able to work to tight deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to translate technical language into understandable content.
  • Ability to take responsibility, organise own time and act on own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team.
  • Very strong internal and external customer service orientation.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude.

Appointment may be made on the Grade 5 Scale (B) €42,404 - €52,256.  Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
