Education & Public Engagement
Here at Tyndall, we’re excited about what we do. We are a leading European research centre in deep-tech innovation - cutting-edge and disruptive technologies that are based on scientific discoveries. We specialise in both electronics and photonics (the science of light).
We support a vibrant Public Engagement & Outreach programme to show audiences the diverse opportunities available across physics, electronics, photonics, materials and chemistry. Our approach provides various opportunities for teachers, students and members of the public to engage with Tyndall researchers in a manner that is most appropriate to them from communications, public events, festivals, to our schools and citizen science programmes.
Our Public Engagement & Outreach activities aim to:
- Explain science, technology, engineering and math’s (STEM) breakthroughs
- Promote physics, engineering & photonics in education
- Increase female participation and highlight career opportunities
- Improve our science communication skills as researchers
- Inspire the next generation to explore science-related careers
- Help with the teaching and learning of STEM subjects.
Tyndall-Inspired Experiments
Renowned for his scientific discoveries, our namesake, John Tyndall was also a gifted teacher and delivered scientific lectures to the public at the prestigious Royal Institution. In honour of his contribution to research excellence and to share his love of science, we launched a series of Tyndall-inspired science experiments that both you and your kids can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
