Our Micro and Nano Systems research focuses on modelling and development of materials, devices and systems for integrated Information and Communications Technology (ICT) applications. Our Photonics research focuses on photonic integration technology, spanning areas from photonics theory right through to device and system development and fabrication.

Education
As well as practical research, you will also have access to training in a wide range of technical and transferable skills including innovation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation.
Tyndall has a long history in postgraduate education; we’ve been hosting postgraduate students since 1981 and have over 800 alumni. There is a strong project team ethos with each student being supervised by a multi-disciplinary team of experts. Tyndall has always fostered a close affiliation to industry and has many mechanisms for engaging industry participation including European Union and Science Foundation Ireland research funding, as well as the Irish Research Council’s Enterprise Postgraduate Scholarship scheme.
We host PhD and Master’s students undertaking a research postgraduate degree in our many interdisciplinary research areas.
We provide Internships and Co-Op Placements to third-level students, either as part of their term-time course work or summer work. Our internships are designed to give undergraduate and graduate students a comprehensive experience of and insight into the life of a researcher.
