The Advanced RF Technologies (ART) Group at Tyndall National Institute (TNI) and University College Cork, Cork, Ireland invites applications for a Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher/Scientist in Highly-Integrated Adaptive RF Front-Ends. We are seeking highly-motivated and ambitious early-career researchers with strong background in RF circuit design and electromagnetics wave-propagation. The succesfull candidate will contribute to cutting edge research in RF front-end-antenna sub-systems for 6G communications and Internet-of-Space (IOS).
Research areas include, but are not limited to:
- RF/mm-wave design of RF circuits, components and systems
- Waveguide RF filters, passives and antenna systems
- MMIC RF circuits and active components
- Additive manufacturing technologies for 3D Printed RF systems
As the lead researcher in one or more of these areas, the post holder will be responsible for delivering specific project tasks and milestones. Additional responsibilities include supporting research proposal development and managing laboratory resources and equipment.

Key responsibilities
- Conduct research on tunable mmWave RF circuits, components, and systems.
- Develop innovative design methodologies and integration strategies for highly miniaturized and reconfigurable RF circuits and components.
- Perform circuit-level analysis and RF characterization of MMICs and 3D waveguide-based RF components.
- Execute full-wave electromagnetic simulations of complex 3D RF components, waveguides, and antenna systems.
- Define manufacturing process requirements and design high-performance RF components considering fabrication and material constraints.
- Develop new tuning and reconfiguration technique for RF components
- Develop and implement integration techniques for 3D-printed and hybrid RF component assemblies.
- Conduct RF texting using vector network analysers, probe stations, and antenna characterization systems.
- Manage research activities and specific projects.
- Contribute to project coordination, including scheduling and reporting.
- Lab management and management of research infrastructure.
- Prepare presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Support the development of research proposals.
- Mentor undergraduate, master's, and PhD students, and contribute to the teaching mission of the research group.
- Engage in education and public outreach activities as required.
- Ensure compliance with Tyndall’s Quality Management System and uphold Health and Safety standards.
- Perform additional duties as reasonably required within the scope and level of the role.
Essential Criteria
- PhD degree in Electronic Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Typically, two years of Post-Doctoral research experience.
- Additionally, typically two years of design experience in high-frequency integrated circuits (IC) including one of the following CMOS, MMIC and SiGe technologies.
- Furthermore, evidence of extensive (> 3 years) EM design experience of 3D printed RF filters and RF components
- Proficient in MMIC using commercially-available circuit simulators and working with PDKs
- Proficient in 3D waveguide components design using ANSYS HFSS or CST.
- Experience in RF and DC testing of IC components and 3D RF components using high-frequency network analyser and probe station.
- Strong publication record in IEEE journal and conferences in areas relevant to the role.
- Experience in lab management and equipment procurement.
- Good communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills with the capability of working within a project team to achieve results.
Desirable Criteria
- Evidence of entrepreneurial experience and creative skills/creativity
- Experience in design and testing of power amplifiers (PAs).
- Experience in manufacturing 3D printed RF components.
- Experience in MS/PhD students advising and teaching.

Appointment may be made on the IUA Scale for Post-Doctoral Researchers € 53,770 - €58,479 p.a. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
