Role Description
The Photonics Packaging and Systems Integration Group at the Tyndall Institute invites applications for the position of Senior Researcher in Component Fabrication and Integration for Advanced Packaging Technologies. This role combines component fabrication and integration responsibilities, including developing and optimising packaging-related materials and components, and packaging integration processes such as hybrid and heterogeneous integration technologies, Critically, these processes must be capable of being scaled to volume production and suitable for transfer to early-stage production through the PIXEurope Pilot Line. The successful candidate will lead efforts in photonic and electronic component fabrication and integration processes, implementation, and scaling of advanced electronic packaging processes while managing research projects, supervising junior staff, and collaborating with international academic and industrial partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimise novel photonic and electronic component fabrication processes, including active photonic devices and electrical interposers
  • Develop and optimise novel photonic and electronic component integration processes, including hybrid and heterogenous integration processes
  • Transition research outcomes of research to manufacturing by supporting the group’s Pilot Line initiatives and ensuring scalability and manufacturability of processes
  • Provide technical leadership in photonic and electronic component fabrication and integration processes, leveraging state-of-the-art cleanroom fabrication and assembly facilities
  • Supervise and mentor junior researchers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of industry and EU-funded projects, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes and effective resource utilisation
