Veda is a senior scientist in the piezoMEMS group of Tyndall National Institute, Ireland. She has nearly 20 years of teaching and research experience. Her initial research has been on MEMS inertial sensors like microphones and accelerometers. She joined Tyndall National Institute in 2020 as a Senior Scientist. On the research side of her work at Tyndall she works on RF MEMS resonators and sensors. She is currently a programme manager in the EU programme office.
Current Work
Programme Manager: She is managing the €15 Million EU programme called INFRACHIP. This is a free of charge access programme for researchers, academicians and industry personnel. It has 14 partners across EU. She is the main contact point for the programme both the consortium members and for the external users.
Senior Scientist: PiezoMEMS RF MEMS Resonators and sensors design: As a senior Scientist she is currently working on design, simulation and modeling of SAW / XBAR resonators and sensors. These resonators are useful in communication systems for 5G and 6G applications. They are used in RF Front End. She is also working on SAW based sensors for Gas sensing. The various projects in which the group work include projects funded by Industries and Government agencies like EC, SFI, EI, DTIF etc. To work on SAW devices she was awarded €25000 Tyndall internal funding in 2022 and €264000 SFI CONNECT in 2024.
Teaching: She delivers a module on MEMS at UCC which is open to UG students under Electrical Engineering, Masters students in EE and Mechanical Engineering and PhD Students. She also supervises student projects.
Work with professional bodies:
IEEE:
Veda is a Senior Member of IEEE and part the IEEE Sensors council. She is the Chair of Chapter Engagement Committee (CEC) and in the executive committee of Women in Sensors (WiSe) , Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Educational Activities (EA), Nominations and Awards (N&A) subcommittees of the IEEE Sensors Council. She has been awarded USD 14000 to run a MEMS Training for 2024-2025. Over 500 people across the globe are being trained on MEMS technology through this initiative.
Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS):
Veda is a Life Member of ISSS. Currently she is the Vice President of this society. ISSS works on Smart materials, devices and systems. She has been coordinating many activities under this society which is mainly active in India. More details on this society can be found on this link.
