Step inside one of Europe’s leading research institutes and learn how cutting‑edge photonic devices are made. This hands‑on course walks you through the complete fabrication journey of a simple light‑emitting device, giving you both practical experience and a solid understanding of the technologies that power modern photonics.
Attendees gain exclusive access to Tyndall’s state‑of‑the‑art cleanrooms and fabrication equipment. You’ll observe each stage of the device‑making process and learn how to safely carry out the key steps involved in laser fabrication.
Through observation of the processes involved, you will learn how to safely undertake the process steps involved to fabricate a laser. Fabrication process such as photolithography, wet and dry etch, chemical vapour deposition (CVD), metallization will be introduced as well as the types of materials used for fabricating photonic devices.
This course also includes laboratory sessions on substrate handling, lift-off lithography, substrate thinning, device cleaving to form facets and basic testing of the completed devices.
