Photonics Packaging & Integration Technologies
Course overview: Photonic device packaging can account for over 50% of the photonic product manufacturing cost. Therefore, it is vital that industries developing photonic-based products have an understanding of the materials, technologies and processes required to package their photonic devices.
Learning outcomes:
- Perform key photonic packaging processes and use advanced packaging equipment

It presents an opportunity to acquire indispensable proficiencies in the area of micro-transfer printing. Compound Semiconductor Device Fabrication
Course overview: Gain a “big picture” understanding of the steps involved in fabricating and testing of Ridge Laser devices on GaAs substrate. Participants will be familiarised with the state-of-the-art fabrication facilities and equipment available in Tyndall National Institute.
Learning outcomes: Learn fabrication steps of a compound semiconductor device and fabricate a simple light emitting device.
Target audience: This course is suitable for participants with no prior practical experience in working in the field of semiconductor device fabrication who want to gain this specific knowledge to advance their research, as well as experienced participants who want to expand their tool set.
