Energy & Climate Action

Climate change mitigation is accelerating the unprecedented need for energy technology innovation for ICT, as increased demand is placed on energy grids. Tyndall engages in collaborative research to meet global societal needs for the delivery of secure, affordable, and sustainable energy services.

Tyndall’s research closely aligns with industry needs by focusing on the delivery of innovative and sustainable energy solutions, to meet growing energy demands whilst reducing environmental impact.

We focus on the development of novel solutions to enable energy systems of the future – across advanced renewable energy technologies, energy storage innovations, electrochemical materials and energy, ICT for energy efficiency and energy harvesting.

Low Power Electronics & Energy

We develop low-power electronics and energy solutions to meet global needs, minimising environmental impacts and operating costs through ultra-low power, mixed-signal, energy storage, energy harvesting power management integrated circuits (PMIC), point of load PMIC, energy harvesting system level models and thermoelectric generators. Each of these have applicability across several target applications, including Industry 4.0, smart mobility, MedTech and condition/environmental monitoring, from consumer electronics to industry applications and sustainable energy solutions.

Buildings & Homes

Tyndall’s world leading collaborative energy research extends to include the development and implementation of technologies that aim to improve new and existing built environments, leading to a better understanding of appropriate construction methods for energy improvement in both contemporary and traditional buildings. We study and employ advanced modelling technologies and use these to benchmark and inform researchers, specialised clients and the public. Our research focuses on the development and implementation of sustainable technologies that improve both new and existing built environments.

Environment and Sustainability

Tyndall’s research teams develop novel solutions to enable energy systems of the future through the deployment of software engineering, artificial intelligence, big data analysis and blockchain technologies, all of which are focused on decarbonising society.

Tyndall aligns with both national and international policies around the environmental, social and governance (ESG) framework by developing integrated energy systems for climate change mitigation. On a national level, Tyndall aligns to Ireland’s Climate Action Plan. Internationally, Tyndall aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
