Last week, Tyndall National Institute hosted its annual Cultural Celebration, an invigorating event where the community embraced inclusivity and diversity under the theme ‘Language of Belonging: Communications in a Diverse World.’
Organised by Tyndall’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Team, the event showcased the different nationalities and cultures of our staff and students.
The celebration featured three speakers: Dr. Amanullah De Sondy, Head of the Study of Religions Department and Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Islam at University College Cork; Susan O’Callaghan, Advocacy Officer with the Cork Deaf Association; and Katie Marah, a neurodivergent PhD student in the School of Applied Social Studies at UCC and Co-Chair of the Staff Disability and Neurodivergence Network.

In addition to the talks, the event included a vibrant craft and bake sale that showcased the skills and creativity of the Tyndall community. Attendees enjoyed beautiful handmade arts and crafts, a selection of tasty homemade treats, and a henna station. A world map invited participants to add a pin marking where they are from, celebrating the 52 nationalities represented at Tyndall.

Tyndall’s annual Culture Day is an important event in the Tyndall calendar. At Tyndall we strive to bring people together and give everyone the opportunity to express their unique backgrounds and traditions in an engaging and inclusive environment. This activity raises awareness and engenders greater understanding, equality and acceptance of our diversities.
