Career Achievement & Research Team of the Year awards for Tyndall

Tyndall are delighted to announce that Dr. Peter O’Brien, representing the Tyndall Photonics Packaging Group won Research Team of the Year at the UCC Staff Awards & Professor Eoin O’Reilly, Chief Scientist won a Career Achievement Award at the UCC Staff Awards.

At a ceremony in the Aula Maxima, UCC honoured a number of staff members for their outstanding contributions to University life. The Awards Ceremony combined presentations and accolades to winners from three separate award schemes: Teaching & Learning; Staff Recognition; and Research.

In the Teaching & Learning Awards, 8 members of staff received an award for ‘Excellence in Teaching’.  UCC has a long, pioneering, tradition of recognising and rewarding teaching excellence within the University.  In 2002, UCC was the first university in Ireland to introduce a Teaching Awards recognition scheme and since then a number of other universities have followed suit.  UCC also has within Ireland the highest number of teaching staff with NUI-accredited qualification in teaching and learning at higher education.

The Staff Recognition Awards provide a formal process for acknowledging outstanding achievements of staff and for publicly recognising such achievements to the University and the wider community.  Fifteen awards were made across six award categories: The Frank McGrath Perpetual Award for Equality & Welfare, Impact, Leadership, Exceptional Citizen, Enhancing the Student Experience and Outstanding Colleague award.

The Research Awards were kindly sponsored by Gilead Sciences Ireland and this year.

“It was a marvellous occasion for all and an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding contributions of colleagues across the University. Congratulations to each and every one of you!” said Dr. Michael B. Murphy, President, UCC.
