Postgraduate Research Showcase award winner

Congratulations to Jennifer Halpin who won the Postgraduate Research Showcase competition, held at UCC.

Jennifer gave an excellent talk describing her work on the US: Ireland water splitting project RENEW, which was voted as the best in class by the external judges and the peer-judge panel

Jennifer presented her research to a non-specialized audience in 3 minutes using 1 slide. Her research masters involved applying extremely thin layers of a stable material to protect cadmium sulfide which corrodes when exposed to light in water.  The thin layers are applied using atomic layer deposition (ALD) at Tyndall. These materials are being developed with the aim of splitting water using solar energy to generate hydrogen fuel. The research is part of the US: Ireland water splitting project RENEW.
