Dr Fitria is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Integrated Power & Energy Systems (IPES) Research Programme at Tyndall, working with Dr Fabio Silva in the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) group. In this role, she works on making machine learning models for forecasting and decision-making on energy poverty more reliable. Her focus is on models that stay accurate and trustworthy when real-world conditions change, for example because of weather, shifts in demand, or new equipment. She also supports the team with Python-based AI/ML development and model validation.
Her research interests are interpretable AI and optimisation, especially helping machine learning models make good predictions on data that looks different from what they were trained on, which is a common problem when AI is used in the real world.
Fitria holds a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the School of Computer Science, University of Galway; a Master’s in Electronics Engineering (Intelligent Systems) from Kyungpook National University, South Korea; and a Bachelor’s in Informatics Engineering from Universitas Harapan Medan, Indonesia. Before moving into AI, she worked for several years as a full-stack web developer and ran her own startup for two years. In total, she has over 13 years of experience across industry and research before joining Tyndall.
She was an Outstanding Student Nominee at EuroGP 2026 and a Best Student Paper Nominee at ECTA 2025. Her PhD was funded by a scholarship from the Research Ireland – Centre for Research Training in AI (CRT-AI), and during her Master’s she held scholarships from the National Research Foundation of Korea, Kyungpook National University, and the Brain Korea 21 (BK21) programme.
