Dr. Nadeem Rather is a postdoctoral researcher in the Wireless Communications and AI Research Group at Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. His research focuses on AI-driven wireless systems, including chipless RFID, advanced antenna design, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces for next-generation IoT and radar applications. He holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering from UCC-Tyndall, where he developed AI-Enabled Chipless RFID Sensing Systems, integrating deep learning with radar-based RFID detection for IC-free, battery-free sensing solutions. Before his PhD, he worked as a research assistant at Tyndall, contributing to RF antenna design and RFID/NFC technologies. Prior to that, he completed a research master’s in communication systems, specializing in antenna development for CubeSat applications, followed by industry experience as an RF engineer, designing distributed antenna systems for in-building wireless solutions.
Dr. Rather has received multiple prestigious research awards, including the Wrixon Research Excellence Bursary 2024, AI Awards Ireland 2024 (Best Application of AI in a Student Project), and 1st Prize for Best Student Paper at iWAT 2022. He was also a Best Student Paper finalist at IEEE RFID-TA 2023 and secured 2nd place in Tyndall’s Postgraduate Publication of the Year 2023. Additionally, he received the Best Technology Demonstration Award at VistaMilk Internal Conference 2023. Beyond research, he has also been recognized for his contributions to education and public engagement, receiving the VistaMilk EPE Champion Award 2024. His work has been featured in press releases and podcasts, highlighting its impact on AI-integrated wireless systems.
