Celebrating Excellence: Tyndall’s 2024 Postgraduate Publication of the Year Awards

Tyndall recently celebrated the winner and finalists of the 2024 Postgraduate Publication of the Year competition, proudly sponsored by QT Technologies Ireland Limited (Qualcomm Ireland).

Congratulations to our 2024 winner, Alida Russo, Postdoctoral Researcher at Tyndall, for her publication, Pen direct writing of SERRS-based lateral flow assays for detection of penicillin G in milk.

Alida’s research was inspired by the essential need for food safety,

Milk is one of the most widely consumed foods worldwide, from infants to the elderly. Therefore, point-of-care tests are crucial for assessing its quality and safety. Residual antibiotics in milk present challenges across economic, health, and environmental spheres and are directly linked to antimicrobial resistance, a major global health threat.

The competition offers postgraduates a platform to showcase their outstanding research contributions at Tyndall.

Keith O’Donoghue, Senior Director of Engineering at QT Technologies Ireland Limited (Qualcomm Ireland), remarked,

Qualcomm Ireland is once again delighted to support the Postgraduate Publication of the Year Awards at Tyndall National Institute. As Qualcomm marks 40 years of engineering innovation in 2025, we are proud to support the impressive culture of innovation and excellence showcased by these outstanding postgraduate students.
