Tyndall Showcased on RTÉ’s 10 Things to Know About… Invasive Species

On Monday evening, Dr Brendan O’Flynn of Tyndall National Institute appeared on the RTÉ One series 10 Things to Know About…, in an episode dedicated to the challenge of invasive species. The programme spotlighted Tyndall’s pioneering use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and drone technology to protect crops, reduce pesticide use, and support biodiversity.

Tyndall’s Dr Brendan O’Flynn was interviewed during the series about the HALY.ID project, launched in 2023 in partnership with Teagasc. The project is carried out in collaboration with Teagasc PhD Walsh Scholar Amin Kargar, who is based at Tyndall, and supervised by Teagasc’s Michael O’Flynn. Brendan commented:

“Using Edge AI in imaging systems helps farmers make smarter decisions by analysing biodiversity, insect populations, crop and soil data directly on site. Tyndall’s deep tech innovations enable real-time monitoring of plant health, water use and pests, reducing waste and chemicals.”
