Tyndall TY Week Programme
The programme will take place over 4 days from the 2nd February – 5th February 2027.
Applications will open at 10am on 19th October and close at 5pm on the 25th October 2026. A link to the application form will be found here when it’s open.
There are a limited number of spaces available and so not every student who applies will secure a place. Students must currently be in Transition Year and attending school either in Cork City/County in order to be eligible to apply.
The programme gives transition year secondary school students a flavour of a week in the life of a researcher in our world-class research facility as well as the opportunity to learn about topics like electronics, sensors, materials science, electrochemistry, photonics and physics through talks, demonstrations, hands-on activities and lab tours.
As part of the programme, students will be divided into groups and assigned a researcher to interview during the week. Each group is expected to research the topic area of their assigned researcher and work in teams of 2–3 members to create a presentation. The presentation should provide an overview of the researcher’s work and their area of expertise. Each team will deliver a 5-minute presentation at the end of the week.
