Tyndall Post-Grads Showcase Research Excellence in the 2023 Postgraduate Publication Competition

Tyndall recently celebrated the winner and finalists of the 2023 Postgraduate Publication of the Year competition, sponsored by QT Technologies Ireland Limited, (Qualcomm Ireland).

Dr Fatima Gunning, Head of Graduate Studies at Tyndall, PhD Students – Nadeem Rather, Arindam Samanta, Keith O’Donoghue, Senior Director, Engineering at QT Technologies Ireland Limited (Qualcomm Ireland), PhD Students – Zixiao Zhang, Cónal Murphy.

Congratulations to our 2023 winner; Hemalatha (Hema) Muthuganesan, PhD student, Irish Photonic Integration Centre (IPIC), SFI Centre for Photonics, Tyndall with the publication ‘100 Gbps PAM4 ultra-thin photodetectors integrated on SOI platform by micro transfer printing.’

The inspiration behind Hema’s research publication is from “our increasing dependence on data centres and the telecommunication network in order to use the internet, video streaming etc. Integrated, low-cost, high bandwidth photodetectors are a crucial component to continue to deliver the services that people want.”

The competition empowers students to showcase their outstanding contributions to Tyndall’s Research Excellence in their chosen fields.

Keith O’Donoghue, Senior Director, Engineering at QT Technologies Ireland Limited (Qualcomm Ireland) commented,

“I was hugely impressed with the innovative research showcased by the presenters at the Postgraduate Publication of the Year awards this year. Situated close to Tyndall’s world-class research facility in Cork, Qualcomm Ireland has a similarly strong culture of innovation and excellence, and it was our pleasure to support these awards celebrating these outstanding postgraduate students”.

Well done to everyone involved and congratulations to our winner and finalists on their achievements this year. A sincere thank you to our sponsor QT Technologies Ireland Limited, (Qualcomm Ireland).
