Tyndall TY Week Programme
Applications are currently closed.
Applications for the 2026 programme will reopen the middle of October 2025, on the 13th October 2025 and will close by Friday the 17th October 2025.
The application form will be accessible on this page during that time.
The programme will take place over 4 days in February from the 3rd February – 6th February 2026.
There are a limited number of spaces available and so not every student who applies will secure a place. Students must currently be in Transition Year and attending school either in Cork City/County in order to be eligible to apply.
Students will be notified regarding the outcome of their application by the end of October/early November. Please check your spam and junk folders if you have not received an email by the end of October.
The programme gives transition year secondary school students a flavour of a week in the life of a researcher in our world-class research facility as well as the opportunity to learn about topics like electronics, sensors, materials science, electrochemistry, photonics and physics through talks, demonstrations and lab tours and hands on activities where we can.
As part of the programme, students will be divided into groups and assigned a researcher to interview during the week. Each group is expected to research the topic area of their assigned researcher and work in teams of 2–3 members to create a presentation. The presentation should provide an overview of the researcher’s work and their area of expertise. Each team will deliver a 5-minute presentation at the end of the week.
