Tyndall Achieves SEAI EXEED Certification for Energy Efficiency Excellence

Tyndall National Institute, based University College Cork, has been recognised for its continued leadership in energy management and sustainability, achieving the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland’s (SEAI) Excellence in Energy Efficient Design (EXEED) Certification.

Tyndall being awarded SEAI EXEED Certification

This milestone reflects Tyndall’s long-standing commitment to best-practice energy management, strengthened by the launch of its decarbonisation programme in 2023. By adopting the EXEED process, the Institute prioritised reducing energy demand before implementing low-carbon technologies, a strategy that has delivered significant results.

The initiative is expected to reduce Tyndall’s annual energy consumption by 21% and cut carbon emissions by 1,101 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent each year, marking a major step forward in the organisation’s sustainability journey.

The certification represents the culmination of six years of substantial investment in critical utility infrastructure upgrades that support the operation of Tyndall’s advanced laboratories and cleanrooms. These improvements have not only enhanced energy performance but also strengthened the long-term sustainability of the Institute’s facilities.
