The primary aim of Kevin’s PhD research is to calculate the parameters that determine the scattering that results in electron spin-flips using DFT codes as the basis. The focus is on GeSn, which has shown promise in integrating with CMOS chips. He is also examining the transport and optical properties of GeSn. These calculations will be used by experimentalists to grow the new Ge-alloys which can be engineered into devices to enable lower energy transfer of data.
