A chance to come together at the 2022 Tyndall Internal Conference

Celebrating our research excellence and collaborations.

This year we celebrate 40 Years of research excellence at Tyndall and recognise all the colleagues, students, partners, funders and alumni who helped make Tyndall the powerhouse it is today. Our annual internal conference allows us to focus on our current research community and the successes we continue to forge as we grow from strength to strength.

Attendees listen to one of our many presenters.

Opened by Professor Stephen Byrne, Deputy President and Registrar of UCC, the day-long event featured more than 30 speakers, both staff and students, from across the Institute. The talks reflected the depth and breadth of our research and skills, enabling the whole community to learn from each other through shared experiences. The conference provided a chance for staff, researchers, postgraduate students and special guests to understand the many exciting projects and work happening right across Tyndall (and beyond).

Key highlights of these varied and inspiring talks included Professor Eoin O’Reilly, Alumni, sharing reflections on his lengthy career; Celina Li, PhD Student, emphasising the importance of women in entrepreneurship; insightful observations from the Equality Diversity and Inclusion team; Dr Aidan Quinn on our Athena SWAN journey.

No internal conference would be without a prize or two. We were fortunate to have an esteemed judging panel, with Professor William Scanlon, CEO, Julie Donnelly, Alumni and Peter Smyth, Commercial Director, adjudicating a competitive field in addition to an audience voted prize.

Senior Research Fellow and Chair of this year’s Internal Conference, Dr. Alan O’Riordan, said “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the speakers who took the time to present. Without your commitment, we would not have had such a successful conference. I am so impressed by the quality of the talks and the ground breaking content of our research. It is a real joy for us all to once again be together after a long absence due to Covid and is a testament to the strength of our community spirit.”
