Andrea Liliana Pacheco Tobo awarded SPIE and Photonics Education Scholarship

Andrea Liliana Pacheo Tobo has been awarded a 2018 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for her potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field.

Andrea's research work is developing a gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy technique to monitor the lung function of premature babies. Andrea said "If successful, this novel non-invasive technology will greatly improve the respitory health care of these vulnerable patients".

SPIE awarded $293,000 in education scholarships to 85 outstanding SPIE student members. Award-winning applications were evaluated, selected and approved by the SPIE Scholarship Committee, Chaired by SPIE volunteer Jeremy Bos.
