Cian O Mathuna to address SRC Executive Technical Advisory Board (ETAB) Summer Study

Tyndall National Institute is pleased to announce that our Head of Strategic Programs, and Research Professor in the School of Engineering at University College Cork, Cian Ó Mathúna, will address this year’s Executive Technical Advisory Board (ETAB) Summer Study organized by the Semiconductor Research Corporation. The event will take place over two days in June at the University of Texas in Dallas.

The Semiconductor Research Corporation is a world class technology research consortium. With its highly regarded university research programs, SRC is recognized as playing an indispensable role in the R&D strategies of some of the microelectronics industry's most influential entities. Prof Ó Mathúna will speak on Integrated Magnetics on June 6 in a session titled Power Electronics: 100x Density and Efficiency.

Over the last 30 years, Prof Ó Mathúna’s research has focused on the convergence of microelectronics and microsystems using CMOS as an intelligent platform for the miniaturization and functional integration of non-standard functions such as sensors, actuators, power and cooling. He has been a co-founding member of national industry-academic research clusters in the areas of surface mount technology (Smart Group Ireland), wireless sensor networks (WiSEN) and power electronics (PEIG). In 2010, he was appointed by the Irish Government to the National Innovation Task Force Implementation Group.

In 2008, he founded the International Workshop on Power Supply on Chip which is now the IEEE flagship conference in this space. Five years later, he was named an IEEE Fellow in the field of power electronics for his leadership in the area of magnetics on silicon for Power Supply on Chip (PwrSoC).
