Tyndall’s Distinguished Visiting Fellow Programme – Prof. Luisa F. Cabeza's Experience

This year Tyndall has introduced its inaugural Distinguished Visiting Fellows Programme, which supports our strategic goals by connecting our research community with globally recognised research leaders. The programme will help establish new collaborations and also strengthen and deepen our existing ones.

Luisa F. Cabeza

Introducing one of our Distinguished Visiting Fellows, Professor Luisa F. Cabeza who is based at University of Lleida in Spain. We are delighted to welcome Professor Luisa F. Cabeza as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Tyndall/IERC.

As part of her visit to Tyndall/IERC this summer, Professor Cabeza investigated how the use of thermal storage in buildings and industry could reduce the carbon intensity of these sectors.

During the visit, the IERC hosted Professor Cabeza’s talk which focused on the use of thermal energy storage, in collaboration with other forms of energy storage including electrical energy storage, to accelerate the integration of renewables and the decarbonization of future energy systems.

Professor Luisa F Cabeza shared some insights on her research and her motivation for participating in Tyndall’s Distinguished Visiting Fellows Programme.

Please share a short synopsis about your area of research:

My main research interest is thermal energy storage, but by doing so I also deal with energy efficiency and renewable energies. I have a strong interest in social areas such as sustainability and social acceptance of technologies.

What motivated you to participate in Tyndall’s Distinguished Fellows programme?

I had been invited to Cork by the IERC in 2005, and since then I have been in contact with several researchers there. This is why I decided to spend some time in Cork in 2022 and also for a month in 2023. The high qualityl research carried out at IERC is of particular interest to me.

What lasting impression of Tyndall will you take away from your time with us?

The research excellence carried out at Tyndall and the nice atmosphere there. It is always a pleasure to spend time at Tyndall!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

It is a real honour for me to have been appointed as Tyndall Visiting Fellow.
